A bottle of sauvignon blanc or prosecco stays chilled in this thick-walled server considerably longer than it would in a similar ceramic container. That's because Nambé's special metal alloy retains both cold and heat remarkably well, and is so durable it won't lose its mirror shine if heated in an oven (perfect for keeping sake hot) or chilled in a freezer before use. The design duo of Lisa Smith and Linda Celentano based the unique form of the wine server on the ancient spiral symbol. With its distinct cut-away rim, the Spiral collection also includes a wine coaster for a bottle of red wine, and dramatic candlesticks in varied heights for tall tapers; add a pair of crystal Nambé stems and a romantic evening is in the making.
Nambé was founded in 1951 in a village of the same name in scenic northern New Mexico. From the beginning, the company focused on hand-producing high-quality, functional items such as metal bowls and trays with great attention to timeless, modern design. Still made in the USA, Nambé's signature metal alloy is liquified, poured into a hand-made sand cast, and the resulting piece repeatedly polished and smoothed by hand. Exceptional gifts for the most special of occasions, Nambé metal bowls and accessories are now joined by porcelain and crystal pieces, each flawlessly crafted. Nambé ware has won numerous design awards, has been shown in or recognized by nearly two dozen museums worldwide, and is part of the permanent collections of many prestigious institutions. --Ann Bieri
